HOW TO STOP OVERTHINKING

Overthinking means thinking too much about something, like an event or situation, and worrying about the possible outcomes or consequences. We often don’t realize when we become victims of overthinking.

We are not aware of ourselves. In the end, people may end up experiencing anxiety or depression.

When I realized that I was overthinking things, I tried to stop my thoughts, but I couldn’t. Gradually, I began to look for a solution. I started writing down every positive, negative, and silly thought in my diary. That’s when I realized that it wasn’t necessary to think about all this, as I was burdening my mind with these kinds of thoughts. In this blog, I will share ways to overcome overthinking.

7 WAYS TO STOP OVERTHINKING

Here are 7 ways to stop overthinking:

  1. WRITE IT DOWN :

The first technique that I found very effective is writing down my thoughts. If you’re stuck on a problem, write down the positive and negative thoughts associated with it. Then evaluate whether they are right or wrong. Writing helps lighten your mind, and the chaos in your head will reduce.

2. FOCUS ON SOLUTIONS :

Focus on solutions instead of the problem. Thinking about the issue won’t provide you with relief. Pay more attention to the solutions that can help you get out of the situation.

3. TAKE A DEEP BREATH :

I used to think that deep breathing wouldn’t help solve my problems. What does deep breathing have to do with overthinking? But friends, deep breathing helps calm our minds. Whenever you find yourself overthinking and feel like your head is about to explode, sit in a quiet place and take deep breaths for at least 5-10 minutes. Shift your focus from those thoughts to your breathing. You will feel your mind relax.

4. CHALLENGE YOUR NEGATIVE THOUGHTS :

Question your negative thoughts. Ask yourself why they exist, if they benefit you, if they will solve your problems, and if they help you feel good.If the answer is no, those thoughts will gradually fade away, and you’ll notice that those negative thoughts are no longer present.

5. SET TIME FOR THINGS :

If you keep thinking about the same thought from morning to evening, when will you live the rest of your life? Set a fixed time to think about this problem and find a solution. Don’t spend the whole day just sitting in a room, overthinking. This will affect not just your life, but also your family, friends, and career. In doing so, you will only harm yourself.

Redirect your focus elsewhere. Engage in activities you enjoy, practice yoga, meditate, spend time with friends, sit with family, or read something. Just make sure to shift your attention away from overthinking.
